1946, 30 Oct, the Hanson Locker Plant
opened, the owners were Richard 66,
1986 &
Roy 74,

who grew up in Gheen. In those days not
many people had freezers to store their
meat at home. After the locker business
slowed down the Hanson brothers started
selling furniture and appliances. Dick’s
daughter Diane and her husband Mike
Suomela bought the business from Dick &
Roy. They have expanded the business to
include gifts and video rentals.

1995, 30 Oct, the R & J Café was damaged
by fire. The building was originally the
Phillips 66 service station that was
constructed in 1953. Later it was the
optical shop owned by Mike Sarazine,
then the Culbert Real Estate office. In
1986 Roger & Joan Steward remodeled the
building into a café and named it the R
& J. They sold to Bill Pasch in 1993.
After the fire Jack Luecken bought the
place and had a beautiful remodeling job
done. He opened it as the Café 53 on 31
Mar 2000. Jack sold to John & Heather
(Lindsey) Chaulklin Jr on 1 Sep 2001.
The building is now a used clothing
store.
