Subject: FW: Winter Wonderland
Seasons Greetings Don!
We were looking at making the trek to Cook for a white
Christmas this year. Alas, Mother Nature had her own agenda
for the Portland, Oregon area. It started snowing last
Saturday morning and isn't stopping... The weathermen say
it is the worst winter storm since the 1960's. We woke up
to another 3 inches this morning, with more to come over
night. Yikes! We also have about a 1/2 inch of ice under
all of this snow!
I hope Santa doesn't get confused and think this is
Minnesota, not Oregon.
Wishing you all at home my best this Holiday Season-
We will be enjoying our Minnesota White Christmas in Oregon.

Subject: Re: Pat Evans Borg
Hi Don, That is indeed, yours truly. I was called
Pee Wee since
forever but I don't have a clue as to its origin.
Occasionally those folks whose memory's are still intact
manage to bring it back. I am honored that they remember me.
As far as memories go, mine remains in excellent condition
although I find it extremely short. In fact, some people say
I'm forgetful but I choose to think that I've only re
prioritized what I deem necessary to remember.
I remember Connie as an attractive young lady. She probably
has the same great qualities (charm, grace, warmth and
another armload of superlatives) that the rest of my
classmates and all the ladies from Cook are able to retain
after attending CHS. Maybe it was just something in the Cook
water. Or perhaps, God forgive, values were instilled in
them by their families. Whatever it was (is), they excelled
at it as do the generations that followed.
What I can not figure out is how the graduates can keep
getting younger every single year? Amazing.

Is this Byron's grad photo? He may have
skipped school that day |

Byron Bystrom has retired to Florida
after many years as an air traffic controller. He is a long
time contributor with notes and pictures to the Cook Mn web
site. Byron has a special way with words. |

Before I forget again (it goes with the age), I
want to notify you of a couple of corrections
for your files. My big sis,
Pat
Evans Borg, was
featured last week in the Nov. birthdays. The
correction is, she did not graduate from CHS in
1957, rather she graduated from Barnum HS that
year. My bio also states I graduated from CHS
in 1960, and again, it should be BHS.
Sister, Vicki says both dates appear in an
the all-school reunion book, which is where you
possibly obtained your info. We moved back and
forth between the two towns a few times, so I
can see where someone could get confused. In
fact, I did attend about two weeks of school in
Cook my senior year, which further complicates
the picture.
Thoroughly enjoy reading your website. You
certainly put a lot of work into it and have
lots of interesting tidbits of info. Maybe you
can get a second ( third? fourth?) career and
join the Cook New-Herald staff! Move over,
Gary. Tell Byron, aka PeeWee, (are those
fighting words?) a former classmate, he still
has a goofy sense of humor and takes some great
photos. I especially enjoy the pix you feature
of how folks look now compared to when I knew
them 48 years ago. Yikes..that long? I, of
course. look the same. Picture this...a 66 year
old body with an 18 year old face. Gross!
Keep up the great work and continue to enjoy
it..it shows. Hope your health does nothing but
improve. Take care.

Hi Don, So
here it is Thanksgiving already. This was my sunrise at 6:45

Someone's got to live here, may as well be me. Holiday

Well I finally did it, retired that is. November 10th
was my last day at good ole Rockwell Automation, after
aprox 45 years...our division is being sent to Mexico
and they offered me a great retirement package and I
took it.
My first act as a retiree was to go spend some time with
Brother Butch and wife Carol. Also a visit with sister
Jody and husband John.
My intentions are to go back to school and finish up a
couple degrees I am close to getting, one being Computer
Science. I also have a few offers to do some contract
work but am not really ready to work for awhile yet.
Just enjoying being home and not getting up at 5 A.M.
I will do some volunteer work at the local nursing home
and hospital to give a little back....guess it is going
to be a busy retirement ha ha.
This morning I am sitting here enjoying my coffee and
looking out the patio window at the beautiful vista
provided by last nights snowfall. Now that is
retirement.
Have a great retirement Kathy and thanks for sending this
information we requested as I know your friends and our
readers will enjoy hearing of your good news. The Zallar
family lived in the Greaney-Silverdale area and the children
attended the Silverdale Grade School. Kathy is a 1963
graduate of the Orr High School.

you don't mind me adding the note you sent for

My Brother butch
and I have always been close. As children we
spent our time running through the woods
playing, hunting, fishing and just having fun.
We were separated for the first time when he
went into the service in 1965. Fun time was
over!!! He went to Vietnam with the 101st
Airborne.
1966 found him with
A Company 2nd/237th Infantry. On August 28th he
was badly wounded in the Dong Trai Valley and he
was medivaced out, never to return.
He went
from the 85th evac hospital in Qui Nhon, the
36the Evac Hospital in Vung Tau and the 3rd
field hospital; in Saigon on to Yokota, Japan
then to Travis air base hospital in California
and finally to Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver.
He spent 8 months there before he was retired
from the service. He was awarded the Purple
Heart with oak leaf clusters, Bronze Star and
many other medals I can’t remember. He was my
hero then and still is today as he fights
another battle just as deadly but he is a
survivor and will make it this time as well!!!!
Always “NO SLACK” my Baby Brother.
I Love you
Bro.. Sister Ta-Ta
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Thanks to Butch's sister Kathy for this
wonderful letter, family is important. Butch
graduated from the Orr High School, in 1965.
