A fire broke out at Zup's Grocery Store in Cook on the evening of Monday, November 12, 2018.  My daughter, who works at Zup's, received a message from a classmate, whose father is on the Cook Volunteer Fire Department, that a call had come in about a fire at Zup's.  My two oldest daughters immediately drove the few blocks from our house up to the highway to see if they could see anything, and when they got there, they let me know there was lots of smoke coming out of the back of the building. My mom and I then drove up to park in the American Bank parking lot across the highway, along with several other community members, to watch the heartbreaking event unfold.

I don't know any details about the fire, or what Matt (the store manager) intends for the future, but I do know it is an awful event for the community.  I buy my groceries here, as do so many other locals, countless summer residents, tourists, fisherman, hunters, and snomobilers. The store is also the place of employment for dozens of people in our community.  Matt has always been very generous to our community, and we are praying for him and everyone else who is affected by this fire.
